Compiled from her own hand-written journals, My Home in the Sea: The Underwater Memoirs of Norine Rouse chronicles the life and times of a living coral reef community through the eyes of a true scuba-diving pioneer. Among the first female scuba instructors ever certified, Norine Rouse brought her passion and skill to Palm Beach, Florida, where she co-founded the Scuba Club of the Palm Beaches. During her multi-decadal career as a scuba instructor, she fell in love with the reef and its inhabitants, and through her steadfast journal-keeping, provided a rare glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of life in this underwater world.

From her legendary love for sea turtles to her notorious fearlessness of sharks, Norine’s journal entries provide unique insights into the natural history of dozens of marine species, and first-hand observations of the effects of both natural and man-made impacts on the coral reef environment. Moreover, her entries were infused with the wonder and awe the reef inspired within her, which never wavered throughout her long career.
